Aina Bauza presents the short documentary “The Atlantic Record: 4,525 Miles Solo” at the Ocean Film Festival

4 de October de 2024

On October 10, sailor Aina Bauza will premiere her documentary The Atlantic Record: 4,525 Miles Solo at the Ocean Film Festival, which will take place at The Ocean Race Museum in Alicante. The short documentary will be featured in this edition, alongside other standout films like The Sanctuary, Raw, Ice Maiden, Hypnotise, Two Kinds of Water, Tess Felix, and Whale Song.

Aina Bauza departed from Cádiz on March 3, 2024, with a major challenge: to set a new World Record between Cádiz and San Salvador (Bahamas), passing through the Canary Islands, without stops and without assistance. Aina covered approximately 4,800 miles in 30 days, reaching peak speeds of up to 18 knots.

This short documentary tells the story of how she lived those 30 days alone at sea, aboard a 6.50-meter-long boat. Her vessel, the Redó, is 6.5 meters long and 3 meters wide. Its most striking feature is its rounded bow, which allows it to surf waves better with downwind sailing, like the trade winds in the Atlantic Ocean. This small boat was Aina’s home for the 30 days of the challenge; in its few square meters, Aina slept, ate, and lived while crossing more than 4,000 nautical miles.

“It has been wonderful to be alone in the middle of the Atlantic. The challenge was beautiful, and I can’t wait to experience something like it again,” Aina Bauza declared.

Directed by Nathan Siegel, the film offers an intimate and unpretentious look at this achievement, while the cameras of Oscar Torveo, Siegel, and Bauza capture the raw beauty and harshness of the ocean at its purest. Laura Quinto was the producer of the project and supported Bauza as part of the shore team during the journey.

This is the first premiere of the documentary, but more screenings will follow in the coming months across the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, and Europe. Once it has been showcased in festivals and other events, the documentary will be available on digital streaming platforms.
